Robert Burton Edwards, III (f/Edwards - Parsons & Lubbock)

About Our Family Research

I am Robert Burton Edwards, III, my father is Robert Burton Edwards Jr., and my grandfather was Robert Burton Edwards.

I'll repeat what little my father knows from memory and hopefully this will help you and maybe me if someone responds.

My grandfather use to take my father to family reunions in Lubbock, TX. My grandfather came from Parsons, KS. (family lore states before statehood, Parsons was part of MO), but moved to Colorado and was involved in an unsuccessful unionization of railroad engineers. Robert Burton Edwards, Sr. moved to Yuma, AZ where my father was born in June 16, 1939. My grandfather eventually moved to Tucson, AZ and passed away in 1970? I was born in 1969.

According to my grandfather our ancestors were members of the infamous Quantril Raiders of Missouri who raided Kansas and burned down an entire town during the civil war. They claimed to be a Confederate regiment but were really 'renegades' or more commonly referred to as 'bushwackers'.

From here on out, it is very sketchy. But my father claims my grandfather had records that showed our ancestors (Edwards) were from England (not sure if England or Wales, but never mentioned Wales explicitly). In England, before migrating to America we have some Welsh in the lineage, but we are originally Norman. Our Norman ancestors in England are direct descendants of the original Norman invaders who sailed with William the Conqueror in 1066. We sailed with William the Bastard (then called Conqueror) and were involved in the Battle. In Normandy the oral tradition get's really sketchy.

Grandfather 'claims' that our ancestors migrated from what is now Norway (we think he meant Scandinavia in general, but my father isn't sure). Anyways, without verifying any of this myself, my father is certain (a fact he says) that we were able to trace our ancestors to the Vikings of Scandinavia.

That's it.

I am just at the beginning of my search and I am trying to figure out where my nearest relative is (outside of my immediate family). My mother's family is well documented, but my father's isn't. I am relying on 'oral tradition' to begin my search.

I hope any of this is helpful.

RBE
