The Egan branch of this family tree began in Cumberland Maryland with James Egan and Letitia Murray around 1850. They traveled west following the railroad as far as Cleveland Ohio, many of them settling around Pittsburg. The Murphy branch came from Canada in the early 1900's with D'Arcy Murphy and joined the Armstrong clan from Lewiston New York.
