I have been able to trace back my family to 1585 (at the date of writing, 29.10.2009). The name most likely originates from Het Eylandt, in those days an island in de small town of Hattem, The Netherlands. The island has since disappeared and now forms part of the town. In the course of generations the spelling Eijlander, Eilander, den Eilander and Eylander has been used. Although I have to date limited myself to tracing back the male lineage , there are numerous branches that will need further investigation to complete the genealogy of the Eijlander familie. Many family members have embarked upon this course, and it is fascinating to ascertain where family members paths have crossed, diverted and established themselves.
