What if you were a young black man that was on his way to the grave and raise out of the ashes to create one of the largest African American Genealogical Project since the time of Alex Haley. When "Roots" came on television, I was eleven years old. Who would have thought that I would interest myself into a project that would lead me on a quest that would last 23 years. This is the history of the Bracy-Demaree-Mungo-McDow families. From the parents of my parents came for people we came to know as Jessie Vera Faison, Roger Gary, Gladys Mungo, and Gonzelo McDow. The eight great grandparents came to be known as Sarah and Silas Bynum, Dorphus and Emma Gary, Ellen and Joseph Mungo, and Daisey and James T. (Doc) McDow. They are the backbone of a family that came it roots back to the dawn of time.
This family project has a total of 2874 names of members of both my mother and father's family. The day has come to show the world. I was told that the family trees of African American genealogist would be short-lived but I changed all of that through the help of so many people. The dream came alive. One beautiful day, fifteen years to the day he was concieved, August 15, 1979.
Through interviews, family reunions, family meetings, births, marriages, death and many things, I continued to trace on. The people are the people that God has commanded me to find. These are the people that he want to realize that the people that is on this earth to come together to save destiny for another genearion so that we can see where our past has brought to this threshold of history. I want to beat the odds and I did. With the ways of my mother and the sterness of my father, I came back a long ways and made the history of these families available to the world.
I love my family. My family alot for me. i want to talk to them, stop by the house, go out to eat, or share a smile or two. Most of all that we are together. We have to learn how to work together as a national of people who knows there past. It was the time-consuming triump that has given me alot of recognition.
