The Elion-McGhee Family

Updated June 29, 2006

About Our Family Research

The Elion family probably originated in Curdsville, Buckingham County, VA.

Peter Elion was born in 1810 and Ellen Elion was born in 1815 in VA. They were living in DeSoto County and listed on the 1870 Federal Census. They had at least 11 children -- the exact number is unknown. Peter and Ellen last appeared on the 1880 Tate County, MS Federal Census.

I found Stephen Elion, born about 1838, in Curdsville, Buckingham County, VA

After 1880, Peter Elion. Jr. and his family moved to Poplar Bluff, Butler County, MO. Peter, Jr., his wife, Elizabeth Logan, son Loyd, daughters Lillie and Ada were all buried in Butler County, MO.

His daughter Ada married Walter Jackson in December 1894 and they had 6 children. Walton Jackson provided information about Ada Elion Jackson on her death certificate. He later moved to Pasadena, CA before 1930.

Peter's son, John Elion and his wife Sallie, moved to Black Rock Township, Lawrence County, AR and were buried there. They had had 4 children but only 1 (Beulah) survived. Other Elions stayed in MS or moved to Memphis in the 1920s and 1930s.

The McGhee family lived in Panola County, Mississippi (in 1870) before they moved to Tate County, MS around 1880.

Anthony McGhee, Sr. was born in 1834 in GA and Elizabeth McGhee was born in 1838 in MS. They had 14 children -- all but 4 were dead before 1910.
