Thomas Elliott (1670-1732) established himself in the colony of South Carolina prior to 1689 and married Mary Gibbes (1670-1711) daughter of Robert Gibbes, Governor of South Carolina. Their son, William Wlliott I, born near Charleston, SC 1730 died 2 March 1778 Charleston. He married (2) on 6 Aug. 1760 Mary Gibbes Barnwell, born in Beaufort, SC on 11 April 1745. She died 10 or 11 Jan 1774 in Beaufort. They had five children including William Elliott III and Stephen Elliott, L.L.D.
William Elliott III married Phoebe Waight and they had eight children including William Elliott IV (born in Beaufort and died 1863 at Flat Rock, North Carolina); Phoebe "Caroline" Elliott (who married Charles Cotesworth Pinckney Sr.; Nary Barnwell Elliott; Ralph Emms Elliott,MD; Rev. Stephen Elliott Sr.; George Parson Elliott (Captain CSA).
Stephne Elliott, L.L.D. married Esther Wylly Habersham on 28 Jan. 1796 and they had twelve children including: Mary Barnwell Elliott (who married William Habersham Sr.); Right Reverend Stephen Elliott; Rev. William Habersham Elliott (who married Mary O'Brien Habersham producing two children including Robert Habersham Elliott (CSA) and Arthur Beverly Elliott...who, in turn, produced two children, one grandchild and Arthur Beverly III (who is still living and is an authority on the Elliott genealogy)); and Phoebe Caroline Elliott.
