The Joseph Elton Bott of Derbyshire, England

Updated November 6, 2008

About Our Family Research

Joseph Elton Bott of Eyam, Derbyshire England, a Civil Engineer & a Consultant Engineer took a business trip to Delaware USA in circa 1881 when my grand father, John Richard Elton Bott was born in Wilmington, Delaware USA on the 25th May 1881.

The next trip to America that Joseph undertook again was in circa 1891 when his son William Edward was born in that year in Wilmington Delaware.

They returned back to Derby, England and after a few years relocated to Manchester as a Consulting Engineer in Pneumatic Shell & Ordnance from his own factory located in Openshaw, Manchester trading as J Elton Bott's .

My Grand Father John Richard Elton Bott, as soon as he qualified as a Civil Engineer & also as an Architect, left England in 1901 at an age of 20 to take up a Managerial position in a Rubber Plantation in the Shwegin, Mergui district in Burma to the East of the capital Rangoon.

John Richard worked there until 1909 & he returned back to England for a short visit but then decided to return back to Burma. In the year 1912 he married a local belle of Mon descent from Shwegin finally to live permanently in Burma until World War Two broke out. He was then forced to trek to India & upon arrival in Calcutta passed away on the 10 June 1942 due to the nature of the hazardous journey undertaken at that time during that War.

I am now endeavouring to compile a Family Tree based upon Joseph Elton Bott & his son John Richard Elton Bott to the present date & to continue.

Part of the Elton Bott's family emigrated to Australia in the early 1960 residing permanently here in Perth, Western Australia. The rest returned back to England, a daughter of John Richard Elton Bott settled on the West coast of America. The youngest daughter remained with her mother in Burma.

Richard Elton-Bott, son of John Richard Elton Bott was born in Mokpalin, Burma on the 1st May 1918 & passed away in Perth on the 24 April 2004. He is survived by his wife Molly, her 8 children & their families. I am the eldest.

I will be greatly interested & will sincerely appreciate in receiving further & better information on the Elton Bott family & ancestry originating from Derbyshire, England in order to enhance the further compilation of the tree starting from Joseph Elton Bott & his son John Richard Elton Bott. I can be contacted at e_eltonbott@yahoo.com.au for further information on our family tree.

Thanking you,

Errol Elton-Bott
