I have just recently started researching the Sappington side of my father's family. His mother was Zettie Olena Sappington and she married Samuel Henry Browning. Both were born in Pontotoc or could have been Union County Mississippi as they grew up and resided in the Shady Grove, Lone Star and Buchanan communities. My great-grandfather was William (Jackson ?) Sappington and was nicknamed Jack. His first wife was Fannie Fields. She and their baby drowned. His second wife(my great-grandmother)was Maggie Harrison. I do not have any information as to when or where Maggie was born. I do know they are both buried in Shady Grove Cemetery in Pontotoc County but have not been able to locate any markers. My father remembers going to the Black Zion Community in Pontotoc County to visit some of the family and he believes that is where William and Maggie originally lived. Zettie had two sisters and one brother that I know of: Romie and Lura. Romie married a McCraw and Lura married a Billingsley. Do not know who Claude married, but he is buried at Shady Grove. Will be glad to share any informatin that I have. This is a project that I have taken on to leave my son an idea of where his family originated.
