Malone, 1769 MD or VA and TN; Matlock, 1825 TN and more

My cousin & I have been to MO & TN trying to find James Malone's first wife (believed to be an American Indian). James Malone was born 1812 in TN, first wife died in MO. He died in OR. We, also went to VA & TN trying to find James Malone's father's father. Richard Malone, Jame's Malone's father, was said to be born in MD in 1769, moved to TN in 1804, married Lucy Lett in 1811 in Knox Co., TN and Died their in 1858. We're trying to prove that Richard is or is not the same Richard that is found in VA until 1804. A Tax record say his estate paid the tax in 1805 & 06.
William Matlock was born in Jackson Co. TN in 1825 moved to OR in the 1850's and received a Donation Land Claim in Holley, OR. He married Nancy Shields in 1852. I found a William Matlock in White Co., TN that has a son my William's age in the 1840 Census. I'm trying to provo that he is or is not one of his children.
