Konrad Shaffer was born in Hesse Cassel Germany in 1799. I have found little information further about him and this is an ongoing process. He married Catherine(unknown last name)My (2)Great Grandfather Conrad (Cooney)Shaffer was born in Germany,Holstein,former state of Wurtemburg on 12-28-1841.
My family emigrated to the U.S. in about the year 1849,when Conrad was 8 years old. They settled in the town of Canfeild,County of Mahoning,Ohio.
He enlisted in the Ohio Volunteer Infantry as Private Conrad Shaffer, on 6-8-1861.This was at camp Jackson Ohio in Company E(Lt. Charles H. Morgan-commanding)23rd Regiment of Ohio Volunteers.
On 5-15-1864,he was admitted at the notorious Andersonville P.O.W. prison in Georgia.Released on 12-24-1864.
He was honorably discharged on 5-31-1865.
On 4-25-1865 at New Castle,Pennsylvania by D.W.C. Harvey,Paster of a bapstist church to, Sarah Cobb. He moved to Michigan in 1884,with his wife,mother Catherine Shaffer,Mother-in-Law,Catherine Cobb,and sister Henrietta Shaffer.
Conrad and Sarah had 7 children;David Christopher,George Franklin,Catherine Henrietta,John Slveness(My Great Granfather)Margarette May,Samual James,Conrad Edward.
