I've been told for years that we are related to Pres. John Adams through a cousin, Charles Adams -- possibly a cousin to John Q. Adams?
My father's family comes from eastern Oregon and previously from Missouri and some from Pennsylvania. Surnames include Daniel, Gill, Forkner, Dale, Beamer, Peck, Doherty and others. I have located the family link on that side to Pres. John Adams through my direct descendant William Cogswell. John Adams is also a direct descendant of his through a different child.
