The Kinfolks, as many Smith descendants call themselves, come from a large family of ancestors born in the Mississippi Delta Region. Henry Smith had been a slave and sold from Maryland to Mississippi. Keziah Sallywhite was the daughter ofr Old Tom (Thomas) Sallywhite, who birthplace was listed as Kentucky. Henry and Keziah were the parents of twelve children: Charley, Lydia, Henry, Turner, John, Randolph, Palmetto, James, Wesley, Lena, Nathan, and George Smith.
The Smiths were born and raised in the old Craigg, Mississippi area of Yazoo County. Now, Craigg is a part of Humphreys County along with Louise, Mississippi. The Smiths are related to the Weathers and Woolfolks. These families were among some of Yazoo County's largest families in the 1870s to the early 1900s.
Many of the current Smith descendants are spread throughout the U.S. in many states as well as some overseas countries. Our story began with twelve children, but now we are eight gerations deep on the Smith side and ten generations deep on the Sallywhite side, which the family is now known as the White family. The Smith legacy will forever live on.
