I am the geat granddaugter of John Newton and Matherine Gentle Carter. Both were born in Clinton County Kentucky. He served with the Union Army during the Civil War.They relocated to Grayson County Texas. I believe all of their 12 children were born in Kentucky. They both passed away in the spring of 1936. My grandfather was Robert Guy Carter, also born in Clinton County Kentucky. He was one of around 12 children born of this union, 6 boys and 6 girls. I remember several of the other childrens names: Willie Carter, Hellen Carter Sullivan, Etta Carter Owen(s), Gwendolyn Carter and Goldia Carter. Gwendolyn and Goldia, I believe, were twins. The twin girls married and spent most of their adult life in and around Terrell,Texas. Uncle Willie was a Church of Christ minister and remained in Kentucky. Hellen married George Sullivan and passed away while living in Texas. Etta married a Mr.Owen(s) and passed away on a visit to Kansas where several of her children lived.
My grandfather married Lela Smith in Clinton County, Kentucky. They relocated to Grayson County Texas circa 1907. My father Creta Gentle Carter was the middle of three sons born to Robert Guy and Lela Carter. He was born in Kansas while they were on their way from Kentucky to Texas, on 6 August 1907. When they left Kentucky they had one son, Charles Homer Carter. A third son was born to them sometime after 1908 in Texas.
I have done well on the research of my great grandmothers family, the Gentles of Kentucky, Virginia, North Carolina, and Illionis. I can also fill in the blanks from my grandfather to the future. However, the Carter side has to date escaped me.
Anyone who wanders into this home page and has some information please feel free to contact me at my email address. I plan to put what I have on the homepage as a family tree in the near future
