I am searching for the family Line of Gayden Drew The family name began with the marriage of Sarah J. Gayden born 1832 in Ar. and Thomas N. Drew born in 1828 in La. They were married about 1850. They had 2 sons. George S. Drew, born in 1852 in La. and Gayden Emanuel Drew, born in 1854, in La.
Gayden Emanuel Drew married Lotus Smith, born 1868, in Ms. They made their home in a community called Oden, (later known as Lake Village)in Chicot Co., Ar. Gayden E. Drew and Lotus Smith had 1 daughter and 4 sons. The second son, was named, Gayden Emanuel Drew II. born Aug. 31,1892, in Lake Village, Ar. Gayden Drew II had a son whom he named Gayden E. Drew III. The joint family name of Gayden-Drew has been passed down to the 5th and perhaps 6th generation. From The third generation, I have traced the sons of the 3rd, 4th, and 5th generation to the Memphis and Jackson, Tn. area. I am a direct descendant of Gayden Emanuel Drew II. He was my grandpa; and my only father-figure for the first 3/12 years of my life. His mistress and their daughter hid or destroyed all of his military records and former family recollections at the time of his death in 1966. They took great pains to withhold knowledge of his death and burial from all family associations. They buried my grandpa in a strange cemetery amongst strangers of no relation, and denied him a proper military funeral, which he was entitled to. He served in both world wars. I am trying to reconstruct my grandpa's life, and tell his story. He earned it, and it is long over-due. This is the purpose of my search.
