The True Story

Our family, descended from Rockingham County; Virginia, with Joshua Evilsizer. As to this date we are still unsure who Joshua's father really was.
Joshua Evilsizer marring Francis Hennings Dodds. Moving to Morgan County; Indiana and starting a family. Having ten children, 8 boys and 2 girls.
We find a book on Morgan County Indiana, that tells how of a family named EVILSIZER lived and what type of people they were. A lot of this may just be myth. The story tells of this family as being professional pioneers and preferred to live in remote areas, as to being in the settlements. How good of hunters and trappers they were. Coming into town wearing coats made of the furs, that they came to trade. How they always had a very large garden growing their own vegetables, potatoes and more, which was taken care of by the women. And that they were not very educated.
In our journey to find information on Joshua Evilsizer we find that he did in fact live in remote areas. When in came to Illinois about 1840, they area he chose to live in, was in Washington County. A small out of the way township called Elkton. The only real people that were in this area at the time was a family named Rountree. Who must have became real good friends with Joshua due to all of the records we have found. Another fact we found about Joshua, is that the family was not very educated. Some of them did not know how to write. In the documents we have obtained only a X was used for signature. Even some of the children made this same type mark.
In our search for the grave of Joshua, in the Elkton Cementery, we find no Evilsizer's headstones. We have received information of another grave site that is located in the woods near what is now Lively Grove.
Through our travels in Southern Illinois, we can just imagine how is was back in the early to mid 1800's to travel across this country in horse and wagon. And the type of person it took to withstand the journey. We can only imagine what is was like to live in the time. To be totally free to travel this country.
We continue our search for our family long ago.
Help us fill in the missing pieces of the missing puzzle of our family. If you see a name from your line please let me know so the information can be updated.
