The Fernandez Navamuel Family goes back to 1212 to a man named Gomez Garcia Navamuel (El Caballero de Tolosa) who died in Tolosa in 1212. This is the earliest date I have found. The line of Navamuel del Ayuntamiento de Valderrible is the antecedants of my paternal grandmother, Modesta Navamuel Garcia who married Matias Fernandez Garcia, both from Barcena de Pie de Concha, Province of Cantabria in the north of Spain, next to the Basque Country and resided later in Torrelavega, Cantabria, Spain. Modesta and Matias had five children: Antonio, Matias, Julia, Eloy, Valentin and Jose Damaso. Eloy Fernandez Navamuel was a Flying Ace dubbed "the Lindhberg of Spain", served in the Spanish Foereign Legion and went on to be a fighter pilot during the Spanish Civil War. He flew a Monospar and won the prestigious Croix de Guerre. My Father Jose Damaso Fernandez-Navamuel was a Hussar and Captain in the Royal Cavalry of Spain, also served in the Spanish Foreign Legion in Melilla, Morocco, and Captain in the republican Armed Forces. I used records in various parts of Spain as well as books written by members of my family: Eloy Fernandez Navamuel "Fui Miliciano", and the works of: my cousin Antonio Fernandez, son of my uncle Valentin Fernandez, my brother, Jose Ivan Fernandez-Caso, and research by my son, Albert Jose Antonio Lopez Frnandez. A good source of info I found in Wikipedia. The other families listed (Caso, Barrero, Villaverde, Altuzarra) are kin by marriage.
