About Our Family Research

We have just started searching our family tree. My husband has lots of information on his family in Kentucky, but I haven't started searching out my family, as I have a Grandfather that was an orphan in England and was adoped by the Clarke family, and I don't know if he came to the US with his adoped parents, or waited until he was older and came over by himself. My father told me that he was a pitcher in the minor legues in baseball, but don't know for sure. My Dads Mother the carters were members of the LDS Chuch and they traveled by ox team from Pa. to SAlt Lake city, then stayed there for a while, and traveled to Pasadina, then ended up in Santa Ana CA. My fathers father had a farm, and he did very well. On the back of one of the Pictures there is a Picture of Shara Ladd married to Loren Carter, and thes were the ancestors who came to Salt Lake City by Ox Team from PA. Loren Carter became ill and died on the prairie, don't know the location, but Shara made it on to California. My mothers side of the family came from Ill. and Tenn. Her mother was a Propes from Granite City ILL. and she becamce very Ill, and she had married My Mothers father, who was a mail carrier and his name was James H. Roddy. Eva his wife had TB, so they went to Tucson in 1920, but it was really two late, as she didn't live very long after coming to Tucson. James Roddy her Husband came from Blount Co. Tn. and he was a school teacher there before he went to ILL. His Father, Christopher Columbus Roddy was in the Civil was, and I have his Pension papers. He was Married to Melinda R Roddy, and that was also her maiden name so I figure they have beem kissing cousins. However I hear that there were a great many Roddys in TN.at that time. My Fathers Father was a breakman on the Southern Pacfic Railroad, and he fell off in Tucson and was Killed, so my Dad really didn't know his dad that much. His mother worked on Ervine Ranch in CAlifornia, as a cook, and she then came to Arizona to many little mineing towns and ran boarding houses, and did all the cooking and domestic things that needed to be done.
