About Our Family Research

This Research on my Family name is not an easy task. I have been working as I can on it for more than Ten years. I apperantly have relatives all over the US, but have only talkd to a few here and there as time permits.

There is only one family reunion of sorts that I am aware of and it is a combined Fegett/Gatlin Reunion held usually in Oklahoma in the fall. It was at one Reunion that I was able to attend that I found out many things about the Fegett Family that both surprised me and thrilled me. Some examples are that Steve McQuenn was a semi-distant cousin as my great Grandfather James Oliver Fegett married Lydia Ann McQueen in 1872.

The earliest Record found has been for Daniel Fegett Born, in or around 1798. Oh, one of our family stories was how our family got to America. Daniel H. was a stow-away on a ship from No. France..he was orphaned, and a rich man in America named Fegette adopted him.

The furthermost back I have ever heard of our family is sort a gray area. Our name was spelled so many different ways. But here it is:
4 brothers came from Scotland and settled in Westmoreland, Lexington & Buena Vista counties in Virginia before 1800.
1. Spencer Fegat.....married Mary Catherine Dodd Oct. 03,1801.
2. James Feagitt ....married Molly Jones on Dec. 02,1789. They were the parents of Daniel H. Fegett.
3. John Fegat married Nancy Mullens June 14,1790.
4. Thomas Figot ...married Matilday Colebock on Aug. 30,1793.

Notes for James FEAGITT: 4 brothers came from Scotland and settled in Westmoreland, Lexington and Buena Vista County, Virginia before 1800. Hamilton Graveyard (8 miles from Lexington) has several Fegats buried there, also the Presbyterian Cemetary at Lexington. Eight possible spellings of the name Fegette, Feagitt, Fegat, Figet, Figget, Figot, Figgatt, Fegett. There may be more variations if we can find any other linking documentation.

Any further information or questions are gladly accepted. Please contact me as needed.

Special Thanks To all who have helped me in my quest and a special thanks to Lana Fegette Follansbee for some extra special information.
