I am trying to trace my roots back through my grandfather, August Herbert Feifert who emigrated from Zhytomyr, Ukraine in 1914 to US. He departed from Bremen, Germany and arrived at Ellis Island. The remainder of his family was thought to have been deported to a work camp in Siberia. It is know that he was born in Germany in 1893. The rest remains unknown. The trail seems to run cold there. However, numerous searches online have yielded Feiferts but have not been able to verify connections is any. It was thought that all Feiferts perished in the work camps thus leaving my grandfather as sole survivor of the Feifert line. Also to add that he is a German who moved to Russia with the blessing of Catherine the Great.
