Her father Dave worked as a tailor while her mother Sarah stayed at home. by the time she was 17, Blanche was living as a border with the Shiffman family. During this time, she worked for a wholesale business doing clerical work. It is probably through the Shiffmans, that she eventually met the Arlow family. In 1930, she wed Samuel Arlow.
