Three Generations From Slavery
Updated October 20, 2002
| About Our Family Research |
|
This has been a long off and on process regarding the history of my family. And I guess it really started in 10th grade History class when I had to do a family tree project. It tends to be more difficult when the family that you are researching is African American. I really got frustrated because I could only go as far as my great grandfather, John Pious Fenwick. Looking through slave schedules, and trying to find the associations take a lot of time and effort. I feel that now is the time to put forth some real effort in talking to family members, and historians, in order to make a difference to my nieces and nephews regarding my generation being 3 generations from that of slavery. My father was a good source of information regarding what he knew of Pious, and his aunts and cousins. I will soon be adding some of the family photos, and making trips to Washington and Nelson Cos.,in Kentucky to increase the information that I already have gathered regarding the people that came before me by going to family reunions, talking to relatives, and going through tons and tons of information.I would also like to thank in advance all the relatives, who helped fill in the blanks, and my friends, for their patience with me while I'm doing my thing.
