The ancestor at the central focus of this page is Increase Cook Plant. His Roots begin in New England prior to the American Revolution. Through his wife, Elizabeth Mary Hazelhurst, a new branch going into Colonial Charleston, SC is added for his descendents.
Why would a page devoted to the FENN family focus on Increase Cook Plant. Believe it or not, he is the person we had the most information on when this project started. Once started, information explosion took control and the branches started to cover many family names. I guess you could say we see our past through I.C. Plant and stand in awe of the family that arose out of the union between him and Elizabeth Mary Hazelhurst. I.C. Plant provides substantial New England Roots while his wife carries us into Charleston, SC during the early colonial period.
The Fenn surname along with the Plants come into conflict with my wifes side of the family during the Civil War.
An excerpt from "The House of Plant" by G.S. Dickerman is located on this page concerning the life of I.C. Plant. This book was published in 1900.
Most of the work on this Tree concerning the Plant's is well documented in the book by G.S. Dickerman and a supplement published in 1963, "Genealogical Supplement to The House of Plant" by Martha Plant (Ellis) Ross.
Also included in this work is my wife's family. Her maiden name was Norris. Information on the Norris family is based on a document by Hugh Norris written in 1929. Her Mother's family carries you back to Stephen Hopkins who was a passenger on the Mayflower in 1620. Hugh Norris takes you from colonial Maryland, through South Carolina, Alabama and Texas and into California. It is here that families in Illinois and California come together.
Information on the Fenn's is primarily from family records. Doyle Fenn has just released his book "Foot Prints and Wagon Wheels" and the files here have been updated to reflect his work.
As time progresses I will include my sources for gathering information on the Fenn, Jessen, Behrens, Clifford and Norris Families. In the meantime ... here it is in it's present form, ... Enjoy
