About Our Family Research

I'm researching my family's history in Puerto Rico.
Among the surnames are: Babilonia, Rodriguez, Vale, Quinones, Lopez, Talavera, Mendez, Sosa, Gonzalez, Hernandez, Birriel, Calo, Vazquez, Fernandez, Quinta.

My mother's family comes from Moca, Aguadilla, Quebradillas & Mayaguez; on my father's side, from Carolina, Puerta de Tierra and Santurce, PR.
Felicita Rodriguez y Vale (b.1903) married Felix Alcides Babilonia y Lopez (b.1897) ca. 1927 (formally in 1940) ; both were born in Moca. They had six children, three still living. Both of my maternal grandparents died before 1950-- Felicita in 1941 & Alcides (also known as "Alcidito") in 1948. I have never seen a photo of them.

Felicita's father was Sandalio Rodriguez y Morales (b.c.1840), who lived to be 100 years old. His wife was Monserrate Vale y Caban; In the 1920 & 1930 census for Bo.Rocha Rural in Moca, several daughters are listed in the household of Sandalio Rodriguez Morales & Monserrate Vale Caban. They had over ten children between the 1890s & 1910s.
Sandalio's sister was Angelita "Lita" Rodriguez Morales de Caban.

Felicita's sister, Evangelista Rodriguez Vale worked as a cocinera/serviente with Juana Cardona Rivera in the house of Tomas Babilonia Talavera in Moca's Bo. Pueblo in the 1910 Census.

Felix Alcides Babilonia Lopez was named after his father, Alcides Babilonia Talavera. Alcides Babilonia Talavera (c.1860-1951 d.82 yrs of age) had 5 brothers: Astolfo, Manuel Miguel, Tomas, Miguel & Jose Nestor (d.1894).
Their parents were Manuel Babilonia & Rosa Talavera (d. before 1895).

From 1910 to 1930, relatives lived on Calle San Sebastian in Moca, Bo.Urbano Pueblo.

The parents of Concepcion Lopez Ramirez were Buonaventura Lopez & Olivia Ramirez. My Great-Grandfather, Alcides Babilonia Talavera m. Concepcion Lopez y Ramirez sometime in the 1880s. She died in 1924, leaving 10 children. Among the children born to Alcides Sr & Concepcion:

On my father's side, Ventura Calo Birriel and Julia Vazquez Rivera had Angelina and another daughter in Bo Barranzas, Carolina. Angelina Calo [d.1988] m. Ramon Fernandez [d.1973]. This was Ramon's second marriage. Angelina & Ramon had four children still living.
Ramon's first marriage was to Carmen Dorrios-Picon, who died in childbirth in Chile; Carmen & Ramon had three children, 2 still living.

Angelina's mother Julia first married Ventura Calo Birriel. She divorced him, and married Frank Camacho in the 1940s in NY. By 1930, Ramon and Angelina lived in Brooklyn.

Many Fernandez relatives lived in the South Bronx before moving to other NY boroughs, and other relatives lived in Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan. My immediate family lived on Fox Street and my grandparents on E.156 St near Hunts Point in the Bronx. In the 1960s, Angelina and Ramon Fernandez moved to Mount Vernon, NY. Ramon Fernandez passed away in 1973, and Angelina Calo Fernandez in 1988.

Ramon Fernandez was the fifth of 10 children born to Catalina & Juan Fernandez Quinta. Catalina lived a long life, and died in NY at age 105; Juan arrived from Santander, Spain to San Juan in 1887. Catalina & Juan's children were:
Pepe; Joaquin; Burico; Andre; Ramon [b.1900]; Maria; Carlotta; Carmen; Petra; Rosa.

I am writing a history of these families that reaches into the nineteenth and eighteenth centuries. Any information is greatly appreciated. I hope to meet more relatives through this project!
