About Our Family Research

My "Fields" surname has been traced to Benjamin F Fields, who was born in Oglethorpe County Georgia, 21 Jul 1820. This information is derived from B F "Frank" Fields civil war pension application. The best evidence has Benjamin F Fields father, to be James Fields. James Fields drew land in the 1821 GA land lottery, while living in M.D. 227, Captain Thomas W Goldings District of Oglethorpe County Georgia. This is the only "Fields" found, living in Oglethorpe Co. about the time that Benjamin was born. James Fields also paid a poll tax in 1827, in M.D. 227, Captain Blanton M. Hills District of Oglethorpe County Ga. This district is also known as the "Big Creek" district.

Benjamin F Fields married Upha F Stephens in Henry County Georgia on 31 Oct 1841.

Benjamin F Fields is found in the "Minutes of the Inferior Court" for Oglethorpe Co. from 1846 to 1855.

1846- Benjamin F. Fields paid tax in M.D. 230, Captain Wright's District, of Oglethorpe County Ga.

Benjamin and Upha Fields are in Division 66 of Oglethorpe Co., with children, in the 1850 Federal Census.

1853- B.F. Fields paid tax in M.D. 236, Grove Creek District, of Oglethorpe County Ga.
