I am looking for relatives of William Fletcher born in either 1856 or 1858. Fsmily "verbal" history says he was born 'at sea' when his parents imigrated, supposedly from Ireland. I searched the records in the Mormon Library in Salt Lake City several years ago with very little success. William was evidently married twice and had either 12 or 14 children. I can name 7, Edward, born August 1884, Earl, born August 1887, Clifford, Samuel, born April 1903. James, Clara and Annie.
I have only a first name for the first wife. It is Annie and I beleive she was English. The second wife was Carrie Marks. My father, Samuel, was born in 1903 and was the 3rd youngest.
It is believed that Edward, the eldest, at one time worked as a tailor in the Philadelphia area.
I have found some additional information. Edward was not the eldest. There were at least 2 older sons, Arthur born in 1864 and Harry, born in 1868. It is probably safe to assume there were several more children born between Harry and Edward.
There is a very good possiblity that the ship the family traveled on docked in Maryland. In my research of census records William is show as being born in Maryland. If he was born "at sea" his birth would have been recorded in state of arrival.
