I have been involved, off and on for some 25 years, in researching the history of several family groups from the Edinburgh Area.
The specific family groups I have been involved with are as follows;
1. FLINT FAMILY - researched backed to mid 1700's with tangible links back to the 1500's in the West Calder Area. Related names include Cameron, Heriot, Sanderson, Black, Weir and Graham.
2. WELSH or WALSH FAMILY -researched backed to mid 1800's. This family has origins in Ireland and lived in the Cowgate Area of Edinburgh during the latter part of the 1800's and early 1900's. Related names include McHugh, Barry, McArdle, Mullen (and variations)and Noon.
3. ROBERTS FAMILY - researched back to early 1800's. Related names include Tripp and Flower(both with London origins), Purves and Shoolbread (both with Fife origins), Heggie and Boorn.
4. GIBB FAMILY - researched back to mid 1800's. The Gibb's have Cambuslang and Cadder (Lanarkshire) origins. Related families include Menelaws, Laidlaw, Clark (Aberdeen origins), McLeod (Elgin/Skye origins) Walkingshaw and Armour (both Midlothian origins) and Heron.
A sizeable amount of information is held in relation to the above families. I am now back living in the Edinburgh Area and have fairly ready access to the principal scottish record repositories.
