A memorial service will be held Saturday for Staff Sgt. John Anthony
Gallagher, who suffered a heart attack Sunday while serving in Bosnia.

Gallagher, 37, formerly of Philadelphia, was assigned to Fort Stewart,
Ga., as a member of the Army's 3rd Battalion, 15th Infantry Division.

He had been on temporary duty in Bosnia for about two months. He
suffered a heart attack while in the barracks. Gallagher had served in the
Army nearly 19 years.

Gallagher was a graduate of Roman Catholic High School and had
attended City College in Chicago.

His brother Dominic Gallagher said he "had a real nice personality. He
was really upbeat." He said his brother was a family man who devoted
time to the Special Olympics and coached a youth soccer team.

Survivors also include his wife, the former Sabine Henselman; a son,
John Jr.; a daughter, Angela; his parents, John and Florence; another
brother, Christopher and two sisters, Barbara and Anna.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Xavier the
Oratory, 24th and Green streets.
