Our mother, Muriel Joan Robinson & father, Clifford John Foote were married in 1942. Athough we have good information on mother's family ancestor's we have very little on our father's. His father was Ernest Henry Foote (date of birth & death unknown although we think he committed suicide) Ernest's parents were Henry John Foote & Ellen Mary Barwis - married Sept. 23 1882. Henry was a School Inspector and they lived in Hammersmith, London/England. They had 6 children altogether so Ernest had two brothers who were Arthur Barwis Foote & Richard Walter Foote, and three sisters who were Christine Bessie Foote, Edith Helen Foote & Ethel Mary Foote. Ernest married Olive Wheeler and they only had one son - who was our father. They lived in Shepherd's Bush. After Ernest died Olive lived with her spinster sister Blanche until she herself died. Although we knew our grandmother Olive and her sister Blanche when we were children no mention was ever made of our deceased grandfather Ernest - a big family silence. He may also have been involved in a scandal - it was rumoured he was a drinker and womaniser and that is what broke up his marriage to Olive before he eventually committed suicide. The scandal may have had something to do with his relationship with an actress which was made public and subsequently led to his losing his job with Tate & Lyle. Ernest was born after 1882 and died somewhere between 1917 and 1932.
ON OUR MOTHER"S SIDE
Our great grandmother Hannah Blazey married James Devlin September 14, 1896 in Kent. At the time of their marriage James was in the Royal Artilliary and living in the R.A. Barrcks in Sheerness. They had 6 children, Lilian, Annie, James, John, Albert, Edward. On April 28, 1902 in Norwich there was a court ordered separarion granted and at this time Hannah Devlin and her 4 youngest children (the boys) were living in the Norwich workhouse. James was a Bricklayer's labourer living at 28 Northumberland Street. Lilian Blanch Devlin (the oldest child) was born February 11, 1897 in Alderney, Channel Islands, and married Robert Henry Robinson (my mother's father).
