My research involves the Foote family, of New Zealand, Australia, and England. So far I have traced my ancestry back to Thomas Foote (1807-1847) and Comfort Wootten (?-1853)They lived in Cambridge, EnglandThey had three sons Henry, Miciah, and Thomas. Thomas 1836-1903was my great, great grandfather. Thomas sailed to Victoria, Australia on th Lloyds in June 1854, to work in the goldfields, we believe. He married Margaret Lear in 1862, and they sailed to New Zealand on the 'Chariot of Fame' in February 1862 along with their son Thomas James, and daughter Ruth. We believe he worked in the gold fields here somewhere for about 18years, after that his employment was as an engine driver, at some stage we believe this involved driving the Josephine. In 1876 it appears Thomas James had another son, Alfred Edward, we are unable to trace his birth certificate, true mothers identity unknown, we believe he nay have been illigitimet? He married three times: Elizabeth Thomas in 1897-1912, Alice Lidgett in 11913-1914 and finally Frances Josephine Norris in1917. Edward had six or seven children to his first wife, and three to his last wife. We are also having difficulty tracing Elizabeth McVicar who married Thomas James in 1881. Their marriage did not last long, but they had a son Henry Ernest Vincent Foote 1883-1948. I am the daughter of Raymond Lenard Foote one of Henry and Annie Porter's (1882-1963) thirteen children.
