The Fritz Family has traced its roots to Michael Friesz who was born in Rossbach, Germany about 1640. He married Anna Margaretha Eckers and they had a son Johann Simon. Simon married Maria Elizabeth Godel and together they had a son Johann Michael.
Johann Michael Friesz was born in Steinwenden, Germany about 1695. He married Maria Carlotta Fechter on June 29, 1717 and they had eight children: Johan Simon, Johannes, Maria Catherina, Johan Peter, Johan Heinrich, Michael, Carlotta and Maria. A book by Annette K. Burgert called 18th Century Emigrants: The Western Palatinate shows on pages 126 and 127 that Johann Michael and Maria came with their family to America in 1738 on the ship Thistle. They landed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on September 19, 1738 and settled into Berks County.
Johann's son Johannes, who was born in May of 1721 in Rossbach, Germany, married Catherine Alspach. They also had eight children: Anna Marie, Magdalena, Johannes, Catherina, Sharlotta, Peter, Jacob and Michael who changed his surname to Fritz. Records from the Robeson “Plow” Evangelical Lutheran Church in Plowville, Berks County show that Johannes and Catherine had their children baptized there on April 22, 1770.
Michael and his wife Louisa had four sons: George, Adam, Andrew and David, who was the original base of the family tree and the man whose name graces the cover of our books- Descendants of David Fritz Volumes 1, 2, and 3. Records from Zions Red Church in Orwigsburg, Schuylkill County show that David Fritz was born on May 22, 1806 and was baptized there on May 15, 1808. Michael Friesz's progeny have grown to include over 6,800 members to date spread over 17 generations.
A quick warning-the family tree is slow to load due to its immense volume. Also, please note that we do not have information pertaining to in-laws.
