The Newman Fryars of Early, TX

Updated March 23, 2002

About Our Family Research

The Newman name goes back to Germany or Switzerland. We have the family back to Johann Conrad Newman and his father Johann Gerhart Nuimann 1723, from Germany.
Johann came to America on a boat that entered at Philadelphia. The original spell of his name was Nuimann, the ships captain changed the spelling and he arrived in America on Aug 28, 1748 or 1749. He had a brother named Nimrod Nuimann who came with him. He married Anna Margariet Brodbeck.
They had 13 children; one of which was Henry Newman married to Mary Arthur on January 28, 1788 in Bedford Co., VA.
Shelby Newman was one of thier children and was married to Rosanna Russell Welch on April 1, 1832 in Perry, Hickman Co., TN.
They lived in Tishomingo Co., MS in 1850 Census. They were wiped out during the Civil War.
The youngest of their Children was Eubank Moore Newman. He came to Texas in an ox cart, leaving his wife Martha Alice (Romine) Newman to liquidate their farm and household. Then she came to Texas with remanining children.
One of which was Cleveland Newman, my grandfather, and his son Ralph Robert Newman, Sr., my father.
We would love to share and compair with other Newman family memebers. Please feel free to e-mail us at mfryar@bwoodtx.com
