About Our Family Research

Our research has grown out of a mother-daughter project and expanded to include research shared by many others to help us get to know our many family lines better. Our immedidate Family Tree includes the names Fyffe, Benton, Fannin, Bentley, and expands to include Ferguson, Conley, Smith, Nickell, Lewis, Hunter, Wooldridge, Jordan, Staggs, Watson, Hannah, and Mumpower as well as many others. Scottish, Welsh, Irish, and English ancestors who came to the New World for many reasons, migrated to the Indian hunting grounds in the beautiful hills of Eastern Kentucky where our primary family tree roots are found. The need for many hands to help build the airplanes and supplies for World War II, as well as the growing industries of our nation called many of the sons and daughters of Eastern Kentucky from their lives on the farms into the quickly expanding cities. The ability to grow up knowing the history of the family and ancestoral line became much harder to follow as families followed new jobs and scattered around the country. Family Tree gives us a way to come together, sit on the front porch and share a glass of iced tea so to speak with each other, and get to know each other from across many miles, and relink that bond of family that has almost been lost. We have built our family tree files with the help of many people, in addition to files shared by Mr. Jim Fannin and Mr. Gene Hall at http://members.aol.com/mmarghall/fanningindex.html as well as information included from Mrs. Dodie Elizabeth Smith Browning's extensive early Fannin research at
http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Ridge/6203/fan3.htm
who spent years tracing the Fannin line into her Steel Family Tree. Mrs. Della Bentley-Lewis Turner has also contributed much information, as well as our own letter writing, picture hunting, talking to family and data searches. We welcome any help you can give us as we concentrate primarily on the stories of the people, who they were, what they did for a living, and how they lived. We hope you enjoy our sharing, and information.

Sincerely,

David Keith, Betty (Fannin) and Jessica Fyffe
