About Our Family Research

searching for any info on John Moton Gffney of VA. in 1770-1800. Also, what part of VA was John's son James Gaffney born in?[born VA 1810 died IL 1880?] When did John die? Who was John's wife and who were his children? Was he born in VA or Ireland? This particular line of the family went to Garrard co KY some time around 1820. James married Mary Carter[widow of John Carter] in 1832. The family stayed in KY until James left for Greene co Illinois in 1850. James was the only Gaffney to come to Illinois that I know of. Associated families in VA and KY were Carter's, Hall's and Pointer's. Parts of these families came to Illinois also. Any info on the Gaffney's while in VA or KY would be helpful. I know where the family lived in KY and that they owned 2 slaves and a little land. They had children. I know most of their names, not all of them though. In VA I know nothing at all. Ido not know location of residence, family unit, military service, land or church records. Any help here is appreciated. In Illinois the only gap I have is between 1870 and 1885. One of James and Mary's son's[Henry born 1836 KY] married Susan Pointer in Greene co Il. in Oct 1857.Henry is my 2 great grandfather. Do not know what happened to Henry or Susan. Another of Henry's boy's[Thomas] served in the 61 IL infantry and was wounded at shiloh on April 6 1862. Thomas would later move his family to Smith co Kansas where he died in 1889. Any info on Thomas or his children would be helpful. I do have a military record for Thomas. His wife and children are listed there.
