This is my study of Gaffikin family history. And consequently a study of the history of Ireland, though I won't bore you with that. I have been given the task as my sister, Anita, hasn't the time (apparently ). There aren't many Gaffikins living in England, that I know of, in fact I have in the last year only discovered 2 of which I am not directly related to. One of these, Alexandra, I discovered in an artical in the Evening Standard in regard to the Halley Antartic Research Station. The name Gaffikin can be traced to Ireland and is derived from Geoghagan or Mcgeoghagan, in an area called Westmeath. As you may have gathered, my name is Paul. I have a sister, Anita who was married in 2000 to Andrew Black. Our parents are John and Violet . Both sets of grandparents are deceased, those relevant to this study are Terry and Lucy. Terrys real name is Arthur, though I don't believe he ever went by this name . Terry had a large (by my standards) family of brothers and sisters, Who as far as I know are living. The one sister who I have any contact with is Pat, who lives in Berkshire with her husband John. The others are Dennis, married to Sis, and Maureen, married to Ken. At present I am trying to trace the birth records of John Gaffikin, my great grandfather, who was born, I believe, in the Croydon area in 1891. I know his father was also John, but alas I have no details on his mother, and shall not until Pat returns from Zimbabwee in March. If you wish to know more, or can help with my study, feel free to Email. Paul.
