William Henry Reid (may have been spelt Reed), was born in Combe Martin, Devon, England, 6th January 1860. William was my Great Grandfather.
At the age of 17 (on 14th Feb 1877), he sailed from London bound for Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia.
Although he succeeded in getting a job in Rockhampton, William was anxious to get to Tasmania. William travelled to Hobart, Tasmania, where he had relatives. He found his relatives engaged in farming and fruitgrowing in the Fern Tree area.
William then induced his father Robert, born 1829, and Mother Agnes (nee Goss) to make their home in Tasmania.
William married Edith Jane Blanchard in Hobart on 18th December 1938.
Edith was born in Kent, England in 1864.
William and Edith had 4 sons and 1 Daughter. William Henry Blanchard, born 4th May 1886 (who married Adelaide Patterson; Edgar Charles (who married Doris Bones); Henry Earnest; Robert Daniel and Edith Jane.
William's siblings were Ellen, born 1858; Elizabeth Jane born 1863; Mary Ann, born 1866(who married Alex Cumming); Richard Conebear, born 1869 (who married Ada Mary Smith) and Robert George, born 1871.
William died in Hobart 23rd March 1938
