Ranchers, out-laws, statesmen, clerks, muleskinners, farmers, merchants, and plenty of good, hard-working citizens. These are the "twigs and arbors" that I am finding in our family tree, and I expect that there will be more amazing discoveries in the search through my family's arboretum. In November,2000, I began to research the family histories of myself and those of my wife, Nancy Jane Marshall. The process started with a review of written and oral histories. This part of the process is inherantly flawed due to the nature of the human memory, and the scarcity of written sources. Both my wife are very interested in gaining any information that we can incorporate into our family tree;likewise,we are anxious to share our cache of information. Here is a list of family surnames for Nancy and I,plus the state or area of the family's origin: Nancy: on her mother's side-Marshall(IN,NC,VA),Sherman(RI,VT,KS), Winkler(VT,MO,),Dillon(VT,CN).Nancy's father's side-Smith _3 gen.(CA,??),Beams(?), Tye(?), Ellison(?) John: mother's side - Armstrong (IL), Elston (MO), Kincaid (CA,?).Father's side-Gallatin (IL,Pa,New Eng.),Conklin (IN,IL)
