The Brooks Family Comes From UK to Canada 1872 Updated December 2, 2003
About Our Family Research
Hi, My name is Kathie and I am fairly new at genealogy. I started working on my husbands genealogy in 1978 shortly after our first child was born. His family was hard to trace and I gave up easily after a year. About 7 years ago in 1996 I was introduced into the computor age. My sons taught me a great deal about the internet. Around that same time, two of my mom's sisters were diagnosed with a life threatning disease, the same disease my grandmother died from when I was only 11 years old. Only then did I begin my journey into the world of genealogy. I felt that our family was not as close as it should have been and this was a sure way of bringing it together. I interviewed several family members all across Canada, and even met some volunteer genealogists in different parts of Canada. I didn't gain much ground in the first year or two mostly because both sets of my grandparents past away when I was young. But this time I was not going to give up. I contacted aunts, uncles and cousins I had never even heard of before and asked them to have every family member fill out a personal card on themselves. Everyone was so cooperative. I was very excited to see all the info. pouring in. I also learned how to search records at the Morman Church and how to obtain birth, death and marriage certifcates. Today I hold over 1900 family members names and their info. and I have entered only facts in my tree. Since I started this family tree for my mom, who has also taken ill a couple of years ago, also with a life threatening diesease, I have made it my destiny to complete this family tree untill I just can't go any further. I will be attending a family reunion in Nova Scotia August 2004. We had a family reunion last year August 2003 which my mom and her five sisters attended in Barry Ontario. It was the first time my mom and all her sisters had been together in 41 years. The reunion was long over due. I was given Family Tree Maker as a gift from the family to log all my information, It was the best gift I have ever received. I am now using Family Tree Maker to log all my family information and to create an hierloom book for the younger generations in our family. They will always know where they came from. This is my gift to my family. The names I have researched are: BROOKS..AVERY..RICHARD..PELLERINE..HOARE..MACDONALD..JOHNSON.. MACGILLIVARY..STILEY..WILTON..And many more.
