I am the daughter of Lonnie John Gallups and Myra Jean (King) Gallups. I married John Stephen Tidwell October 26, 1996. Steve is the son of Bernice (Stevenson)Tidwell and Francis (Jack) Tidwell (Oneonta, AL). Steve and I were raised in Birmingham, AL. Steve's father's family are the Tidwells of Oneonta, AL.
My father's family lived primarily in Birmingham, AL. My grandfather was Tom Clifford Gallups and my grandmother was Lillian Verona (Watkins) Gallups (both deceased). My grandfather (Tom), my father (Lonnie), and almost all for Papa Gallups'(Tom) immediate male brothers and descendents worked at US Steel in Fairfield, AL. Both my grandfather and my father retired from US Steel. I have been told that my great-grandfather was the Birmingham chief of police in his day and he died when my father was a very small child. My grandmother (Lillian) family lived in Gadsden. Most of her brothers and sisters lived and died there. She has one living brother in Gadsden.
My mother's maiden name is King. Her father was James Earl King (deceased) and my grandmother, Beulah (Ford) King Handley. My grandmother (Beulah) was from Calera. Her father owned a great deal of land that the interstate 65 South disected. Most of her sisters and brothers lived or are living in Calera. My grandmother remarried Major Handley of Jasper, AL. My mother is next to the oldest one of 8 children born to James (Jim) and Beulah King. The men in my mother's family have all been some sort of construction worker, usually owning their own construction company-floor mechanic, brick mason, eletrician, etc.
I am the oldest of 5 girls born to Lonnie and Jean Gallups. My sisters are Teresa Jane (Gallups) Barlow, Chere Renee (Gallups) Knight, Judy Carol (Gallups) Pendley and Cynthia Jean (Gallups) Fortenberry. We all live in Birmingham or the surrounding area of Birmingham.
My children are Jason Brian Echols ('73), Jennifer Suzanne (Echols) Ogletree ('73), John Michael Fondren ('81), and Jacob Matthew Fondren ('83). As you can see I have been married before - 1972-76 Murray Smith Echols, Jr. and 1978-91 William Michael Fondren.
Steve's children are Daniel Brian Tidwell ('72), John Bradley Tidwell ('76) and Anna Aliese Tidwell ('85). Their mother was Faye Huffstutler of Oneonta, AL.
