The following is information gathered by my father, Emmet Edward Gallagher, over many years and I wanted to get this transfered to Family Tree Maker from the Mormon PAF program so we can easily share with all. sg
Dear Family and friends,
Early in the process of gathering information on any family, a person realizes how little information has been recorded and saved about them. Even the stories that have been passed down from person to person and generation to generation are difficult, and often impossible, to prove or disprove.
Thus, we must use what is available and it becomes obvious WE MUST RECORD what little we have or it may be lost forever and never be done. The key word is "We" because if it is to be, "We" cannot expect "Somebody Else" to do it!
Certainly, it is vitally important that we and our following generations know where we came from and why we are as we are.
The words of James J. Metcalfe entitled "Old Memories" come to mind:
There are those special memories
We cherish through the years
Most of them are happy ones
A few are touched by tears
They all become more beautiful
The older now we grow
And with their age they take their place
As days of long ago
They are the pictures of the past
For which we sometimes yearn
But which we know so well are gone
And which can not return
And yet those memories can play
A most important part
As they inspire or console
Or elsewise help the heart
As the family story gets ready to unfold, you have to be told there are mistakes in what we hope you will read.......perhaps lots of them, but they weren't put there on purpose. We hope you will tell us about them and give us any additional information you may have or that someone else has.
Let's get started. We hope you enjoy what we have done as much as we have in putting it together. Please don't forget to give us your thoughts, especially if you have information we can add or correct.
