Most of my family tree information has come from my Dad's memory, my cousin Earl, and my cousin Chuck, who have both done a lot of research. About 30 years ago, my Aunt Marian (my mom's sister) initiated the idea of a family reunion. My mom passed away at an early age, but her five brothers and sisters lived or are living long, healthy lives. In fact, her sisters (ages 82, 84, and 86) are still going strong! Every year someone in the family plans a picnic reunion (usually in a lovely county park). We all bring food for the barbecue, salads, etc. The "planner" usually reserves a group picnic area adjoining a big lawn on which to play softball. Sometimes there is a lake for fishing, volleyball, horseshoes, or a kiddie playground (or "all of the above"). About six months prior to the event, the "planner" sends out a letter with lots of summer dates to choose from. Everyone is asked to cross out dates that are NOT good for them or their families. This way, we can be assured of a great turnout! It's always a fun time.
