My great-great-great grandfather, Jacob Gass, was born in Canton of Basel, Switzerland in 1776 and immigrated to the USA on August 3, 1824 in Amersterdam. He was naturalized on August 6, 1827. He was a farmer. My direct line is through his 3rd child, my great-great grandfather, Sebastian Gass and through his 5th child, great granftr, Jacob J. Gass, through his 12th child, my granpap, Frederick Harry Gass b. 8/27/1890, d. 4/14/1959 and married (b. Lidabel) Idabel Erwin (Gass) b.10/14/1895, d. 12/3/1993. Their 1st born son, my dad, Frederick Dale Gass b. 9/29/1924. F. Dale married Patricia Ruth Hartenbach (Gass) b. 8/19/1929, d. 10/23/1979 and these are my parents, I'm middle of 3 daughters, Pam, Tracey and Greta Gass.
This info is in a book that the members of the Moon Twp., Allegheny County, PA, Gass/Goss family received at a reunion in 1995. The original spelling is Gass (pron. goss). My record shows the spelling first changed with Charles Jacob Goss (b. 1/15/1882, d. 4/14/1943), son of Jacob J. Gass and Emma Sorg (Gass) and an older brother to my grandfather, Frederick Harry Gass, b. 8/27/1890, d. 4/14/1959. 4 other siblings changed the 'a' to an 'o' out of 18 siblings. My father still lives in Moon Twp. Pa.
I am Tracey Ellen Gass Ranze, b. 1/27/1957. I married Michael James Ranze ('ran-zee) 7/2/1983, we have 4 sons; Cole Micah Ranze b. 7/10/1984, Leif Adler Ranze b. 2/11/1987, Sage River Ranze b. 1/15/1991 and Skye Forest Ranze b. 9/27/1993.
