My mother, Ellen, was an orphan in England, in 1908. Her father died in 1906 leaving her mother to care for her and her brother, James. I suppose her mother became overwhelmed with life as she was only 26 when she was widowed that she took the wrong path and after two or more children, disappeared. At the age of eleven, she was taken in by her grandmother, who did not like her. At the age of 21, Ellen immegrated to Canada, Where she obtained work in, first domestics, and then on to working in a mental hospital in Toronto. It was here she met her husband and my father, Harry. They remained in Ontario for the rest of thier lives of 64 years together. I have very little to go on except her story. Of recent, I have (hopefully) traced back to my great, grandparents on my mom's side, but have come to a standstill. I have not yet started on my dad's family. Without guidance and help, it is a very, very difficult endevour.
