I am a direct descendant of Irishman John Gavin b1785 who was married in 1811 to Catherine Hogan b1791. John was sentenced at Waterford in 1820 to life for cow stealing and was transported to Sydney, Australia on board ship Lord Sidmouth, Master James Muddle. Catherine followed later on ship "Caroline" with sons Michael and Andrew. The line goes John, Thomas, Francis Riley, Francis Henry, Francis Gary Denis and then me. I have a lot of information on the family here in Oz but would like more on John's family in Ireland. The Irish Convict Records noted for John "Known in Clonmel area to Captain Power and Colonel Green" It also had some other name that I could only make out to be " Donald Esquire " Clonmel is in County Tipperary Ireland. One other thing that popped up in my research was that one of the founders of the Clonmel Library (1805)was John Power, Is this the same "Captain Power" that knew John in 1820. John and Catherine's family were- John b1816, d1895, Michael b1820, d1889, Andrew b1821, d1888, Catherine b1835, d1911, Thomas b1837, d1877. Any information would be appreciated.
