Thomas Wise Family in America Updated March 26, 2006
About Our Family Research
Thomas Wise was the son of John Wise of Sydenham, Devon England. He was knighted by James 1st, recorded in 1620 Arms - latin for "Dare to be Wise". Coat-of-Arms shows lion with royal mace. Family history can be traced back to 1100 - Ancestral Home was at Mount Wise at Plymouth Harbour, with a small home at Sydenham, in Devon (still standing.) Sir Thomas was a Knight of Bath with no recorded heirs in England; he and Margaret had two sons "without issue". His tomb is at Stove St. Mary. It appears Thomas Wise came to America in 1600 to escape further political persecution - as he had already suffered internment, fines, etc, as a Royalist. Sir Thomas must have settled in Virgina, County Wise. My grandmother was Lucy Sara Wise.
