I've been working on my family history on and off for years. The four surnames that really have me stuck are: Hood, Bennett, and my husbands surname of Gavin.

My John Hood and his wife Margaret Dunbar are from Petty Parish, Scotland. They immigrated to Nova Scotia, Canada in the mid 1800s.

My Bennett family appears in Pennsylvania in the 1800s. James Warren Bennett Senior married Catherine Edwards around 1830. No one has ever been able to find his parents.

My Barr family begins with Peter Barr and his wife Justina Adams. Peter was born around 1814 in Pennsylvania. I can't seem to find Peter's parents.

My husband's Gavin family begins with John Gavin who was born around 1795 in Ireland. According to my husbands grandfather, John Gavin came from Cork, Ireland. He married Elizabeth Richardson on 1 May 1814 in Brookville, Franklin, Indiana. He died 8 Feb 1880 in Nodaway County, Missouri.
