Irene and I have lived in Seatle since 1969. We have four children, Bill, Tom, Linda, & Patrick.
We are both retired Lutheran School Teachers. I also have worked for AMTRAK for 13 years.
The Gehrings/Gerings emmigrated from Konigsberg, Germany. Konigsberg has since been renamed Kaliningrad, Russia after World War II. In October of 2002, we traveled to Kaliningrad in an attempt to search for any information concerning my grandfather. There was no information about any Germans there. My family settled in Wausau, Wisconsin where I was born and raised.
Our name is spelled two ways - with or without the h.
My wife is Irene. She was born Irene Volz in Sebewaing, Michigan. Her family comes from the town of Altensteig, Germany. The town was originally named Waldorf. We also visited this town on our Fall 2002 European trip.
We both attended Concordia Teachers' College in River Forest, Ill. We were married on June 11, 1961. We have taught in Paterson, New Jersey, Chicago, and Seattle, Wa.
Retirement has been very good for us. We still do some sub teaching. We are also involved in volunteer work, teaching an adult Bible class, cross country skiing, hiking, and traveling.
