The BERRY Tree of Bamberg, Barnwell, Colleton, Orangeburg Counties, SC
I have just started my research and will be posting as I go along.
Grand parents are Lee Franklin Berry (1182-1956) and his second wife Martha Justine Hiers Berry (1892-1962). They are buried in Smoaks Baptist Church Cemetery in Smoaks, Colleton County, SC. The date on her stone is in error. It shows Died July 11, 1964, but the death certificate (of which I have a copy) shows June 11, 1962. The doctor, coroner and funeral home all signed in June 1962. I believe all the stones for this plot were ordered or installed in July of 1964 which caused the confusion. I will work on having this fixed.
My great-grandparents are:
Frank J Berry (1859-1935) and Sarah H “Hattie” Kinard Berry (1862-1924), and Andrew Cone Hiers (1858-1920) and Martha Cornelia Kearse Hiers (1865-1960). All four are buried in Smoaks Baptist Church Cemetery in Smoaks, Colleton County, SC.
One set of g-g-grands and g-g-g-grands are:
Oliver Perry Kearse (1822-1893) and Martha Ann Dickinson Kearse (1820-1911). I am looking for their burial site. Their parents are William Kearse (c1770-1838) and Elizabeth “Betsy” McMillan Kearse (b c1790), and Josiah Dickinson and Carolina Jane McMillan Dickinson (b c1807). I would like more info on Josiah Dickinson.
The other set of g-g-grands and g-g-g-grands are:
Richard Jacob Hiers (1832-1897) and Harriet “Hattie Sarah Cone Hiers (1829-1897). They are buried in Carter’s Ford Baptist Church near Lodge, Colleton Co, SC. His parents were Jacob George Hiers (c1780-1873) and Sarah ________ (b c1805). I need more info on his wife Sarah, and the parents of Hattie Cone.
The next set of g-g-grands and g-g-g-grands are not known to me yet. I have seen conflicting information on the parents of Frank J Berry and Sarah H Hattie Kinard Berry, so I will not be posting it until I know more.
