Our family research began with my mother, Ruth Virginia Jobe Lowry. Her Jobe family descended from Samuel Jobe for which a book has been published. Much is known about this family and she wanted to document the history of the Lowry family as well.
She began research with my Grandfather who lived to be 100 years old. There were other old ones still living at that time also. When she would ask Grandaddy about his ancestors he would reply quite often "Paw never told me." She learned as much as she could and all the time trying to get me interested in researching as well. It wasn't until after I graduated from college before I got interested.
We have been able to trace back to my 3rd great grandfather, Squire Lowry. Born circa 1780 probably in North Carolina. He lived in Alabama, Georgia(probably), Tennessee and died in Tippah County, Mississippi.
My mother is no longer with us. I continue the research and continue to find more clues. The personal history of this family is nothing compared to the knowledge we have regarding the Jobe family but the search will continue.
