My gf, Martin Giff, was born in 1859 some-where near Balinisloe, Ireland. His relatives, who went under the names Guiff and McGuiff, were baptised in the Ahascragh church nearby. His father was James. His mother was Mary Cosgrave(or Cosgrove.)
He married Ellen Canavan, born of Irish parents in England, and they emigrated to the US in 1883.
A burial plot in Calvary shows it was purchased by Martin McGuiff. Buried in it was his first born, Catherine "Guiff."
Ellen Canavan's parents were;Patrick, b 1837 (Ire;and) and Catherine Burke, b 1842 in Galway.
