Updated March 27, 2004

About Our Family Research

Gignac history begins in the Americas in Quebec, Canada. The first known of this line of Gignac's was Francois born 23 Dec, 1669. Francois married Anne Briere, and later, married Marie Anne Duclos in 1688 in Cap Sante Portneuf, Quebec. Marie was born in 1669 in L'ange-Garden, Montmorency, Quebec.

The Batty's history begins in Yeovil, Somerset County, England starting with Abraham who was born around 1759, and married Mary Andrews around 1785 in Yeovil. The family continued to grow until some members came to the United States around the turn of the century (1900's). Many members settled in Gloversville New York which at that time was a center of Glove Manufacturing, as was Yeovil in England, and Trios Riviers and Montreal in Quebec.
